2018 STEADY to the FINISH

32…32 days left in the year 2018. Wow! What. A. Year…

If you are like me, you are reflecting on this past year with a myriad of emotions. I am filled with astonishment, laughter, deep reflection and most of all-GRATITUDE. It has been 18 months since I was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It has been 10 months since the very painful mastectomy surgery I endured by the Grace of God. All in All, I am here. I am very grateful to God for bringing me through many challenges this year. I hope to inspire every reader in reflection of this year, you may not have met many of your goals or resolutions. Not meeting this years goals may fill your spirit with regret, disappointment and despondency. But I want to challenge you to have a different outlook or perspective on this past year as you press into 2019. Post surgery this year, I endeavored to pursue many goals and resolutions only to be distracted by reoccurring illnesses, hospitalizations and set backs. But I was determined to get back and keep pressing on.

I want to challenge you to not look back in regret. I want to challenge you not dwell on what was lost or what you didn’t accomplish. I want to you to focus on what was accomplished this year. There is a quote that puts this in perspective, “Cowards never start, The Weak never finish, WINNERS never quit.” I want you to never quit. The very fact you are reading this proves that you never quitted. Me, personally looking over this past year, If I gave up every time I was hit with a set back in my health or my goals….I would’ve been paralyzed in that moment. Change what you are focusing on.  What are you envisioning?   Are you focusing on the past or the future? During this time of the year, many of you may feel as though you are paralyzed or stuck in life. It quite possibly could be your perspective of always focusing on what you didn’t do, what you should’ve done or the setback that happened.  Change your focus or vision.   Change your perspective  into a place of gratitude of all of the great things that did happen. Gratefulness enlarges your perspective and gives you strength to press on.

Life is like running a race.  I have ran many races in my life from 5ks, 10ks to marathons.  With every mile your perspective is fuel to continue to the next mile.  For every mile I have ran, I was grateful for the distance I covered.  The pace may not have been to my liking and many runners beside me may have appeared to run faster or stronger but I know I had only one race to run….my race.  If my vision for the race was still at the START line– I would’ve never finished any race.  My vision has and always will be to be the finish line…future focused.  So it is with many of us, we must have a vision for the future…a vision to finish.

These last 32 days left in 2018, I want to encourage you to not focus on the disappointment or setbacks that this year may have brought.  Don’t look back to the start line of this year.   I want to challenge you to focus on how far you have come.  Never mind  what you didn’t accomplish or what wasn’t done.  FOCUS on all that was accomplished thus far this year.  I want to challenge you to always carry a spirit of gratitude. Gratitude is the fuel you’ll need to finish strong.  With Gratitude and a vision of the future….You will FINISH STRONG IN 2018….STEADY TO THE FINISH….FINISH STRONG!!
